Individuals travelling within and beyond South Africa should be advised on all indicated vaccinations against destination-specific diseases for which they are at risk and which are preventable through vaccination.  

Whether you are an experienced, first time or business traveller, you will be guaranteed to receive professional travel advice and immunizations at CTC.

CTC provides comprehensive traveller’s health services, including routine and travel vaccines, malaria prevention, traveller’s diarrhoea prevention and management, general advice on the health risks associated with your planned travel, about keeping healthy during travel and diagnosis and treatment of travel related illnesses.

Dr Patel can provide individualised services to travellers with special travel needs, including infants and young children, travellers with special medical needs or chronic medical conditions, immunocompromised travellers, travellers who are pregnant, those preparing to work or live overseas for prolonged periods and business and adventure travellers.

Selective medicals required for cross-border work permits or visas are also done at CTC, in accordance with the occupational health requirements of the specific country.

Meningococcal meningitis is an acute bacterial disease that can be fatal and travellers to sub-Saharan Africa are at particular risk.

Hepatitis A

It is an infection of the liver caused by a virus aquired by direct contact with an infected person or by consuming contaminated food or drinking water.

Hepatitis B

It is highly infectious and potentially fatal disease caused by the Hepatitis B virus which is transmitted by contact with infected body fluids of which sexual transmission is an important mode of transmission.

Typhoid Fever

It is an acute life-threatening illness caused by a bacterium which is transmitted by ingesting contaminated food or water and is characterised by persistent high fevers, loss of appetite, bloody diarrhoea and severe headaches.

Tetanus

It occurs anywhere in the world and is caused by neurotoxins produced by bacteria in wounds contaminated with dirt, faeces and saliva. Deep wounds, burns and those with dead tissue are susceptible.

Cholera

Cholera is an acute infectious disease caused by ingesting a bacterium found in water and food contaminated by faeces. It affects the intestinal tract causing severe diarrhoea.

It is an acute, usually fatal disease causing inflammation of the brain and spinal cord which is caused by a virus which is transmitted in the saliva of infected animals – usually dogs (domestic and wild).
