Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)

It is important to identify the traveler at risk for the development of a DVT so that the necessary advise and possible prophylaxis can be given before travel.

Risk factors for developing DVTs

Previous history of DVT
Cardiac failure
History of smoking
Varicose veins
Obesity
Over 60 years old
Women on Hormone replacement treatment (HRT) or the Oral contracptive pill (OCP)
Immobile patients
Recent major surgery
Patients undergoing Cancer treatment
Pregnancy
